HALLBERGMOOS, Germany, April 7 /PRNewswire/ -- The ASTA Early Cockpit Trainer (ECT) has officially been accepted by The NATO Eurofighter and Tornado Management Agency (NETMA) and two of the Eurofighter Typhoon partner air forces.
On Wednesday, 22nd March, the first ASTA Early Cockpit Trainer was formally accepted by German Air Force. This device, installed at Laage air base, will primarily be used for procedural and basic flight training as part of the conversion to type of German Air Force pilots.
The Spanish training system at Moron air base was accepted on Thursday 6th April. Early Cockpit Trainers are expected to be accepted by the other two partner air forces in the UK (Coningsby) and Italy (Ronchi) in April and June respectively.
Dr. Matthias Hammer, ASTA Joint Team Leader, sees the deliveries as a major milestone in the programme.
"This is a significant achievement for all involved in the ASTA contract and I believe that the acceptance of the Early Cockpit Trainer will be a spring board for delivery of future devices and full functional capabilities.
"Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft is one of the world's most capable and potent swing-role weapon systems. To enable the aircraft to achieve its true combat potential, its flight and ground crews will use a range of training systems to enable them to maintain complete combat readiness. These training systems include the latest in simulation systems and feature high-resolution virtual displays, modern multimedia advanced learning systems, the use of Synthetic Environments (SE) and combat training debriefing systems that bring a fully integrated infrastructure to networked training," he said.
