Siemens chooses Ecrio's mobile Instant Messaging Platform for its
carrier offering
MUNICH (GERMANY), AND CUPERTINO (CALIFORNIA), 13 (PRNewswire)
The Siemens Information and Communication Mobile Group (IC
Mobile), a leading provider of mobile networks, solutions and devices
for mobile businesses, and Ecrio, a leading provider of mobile
instant and multimedia messaging software, today announced an OEM
agreement that brings the Ecrio Rich Instant Messaging Platform into
Siemens' offering for advanced messaging and presence-enabled mobile
services.
Under the agreement, Siemens will bundle and integrate Ecrio's
solution with its mobile messaging offering, including the Siemens
presence server, and therefore provide real-time mobile network-based
presence into instant messaging. Siemens will market and sell the
combined solution worldwide.
By leveraging Ecrio's capabilities to exchange All Media(TM) --
text, digital photos, maps, drawings, ring-tones, logos, audio,
video, and documents, between PCs, PDAs, J2ME(TM), WAP, and SMS
phones worldwide, and across all networks, the combined solution will
enable operators to offer a pre-integrated presence and messaging
service, with the ability to capitalise on Multimedia Message
Services (MMS).
"We found in Ecrio a company that has products, technical
leadership, and vision in perfect alignment with Siemens's own
outlook on the future of mobile services." said Volker Ziegler,
President of Solutions within Siemens' Information and Communication
Mobile Group. "We see Ecrio's support of interoperability and
standards such as Wireless Village and multimedia messaging, as
critical in bringing much needed applications to the market."
"Our partnership with Siemens reinforces the mobile messaging
business case, and makes it easier to bring new services into
fruition for operators worldwide" said Nagesh Challa, President & CEO
of Ecrio. "With Siemens' capability to offer mobile networking
equipment, presence servers, and handsets, along with Ecrio's Rich
Instant Messaging Platform, we are able to bring mobile operators
uniqueness in branding and services at advantageous economies of
scale."
Siemens will be showcasing the integrated multimedia and instant
messaging solution based on Ecrio's Rich Instant Messaging Platform
and the Siemens Presence Manager at the CeBIT fair, March 13th-20th,
Hanover, Germany. Visitors will see how they can engage in instant
messaging sessions, exchange video clips and discuss movie star's
gossip, and purchase and redeem movie tickets, all on a combination
of phones, smart-phones, and personal computers.
