Cava producers sold 243 million bottles during 2012, an increase of 3.6 million bottles over 2011, according to the data announced today in a press conference by the Cava Regulatory Board chairman, Gustavo García Guillamet.
The foreign market grew by 6.02%, with 161 million bottles, representing a growth of 9 million bottles over to 2011. The chairman of the Cava Regulatory Board, Garcia Guillamet, noted that the export figure reached a new record and cava continues to be the leading exporter D.O in Spain.
The domestic market experienced a 6.28% decrease in sales during 2012, up to 81 million bottles. "The domestic market continues to decline, although in a lower rate than in previous years", explained Garcia Guillamet. In 2011 the decline in the domestic market was 8.7%.
