DLDsummer: Technology, Health and Lifestyle

MUNICH, June 18, 2015 /PRNewswire/ --

New DLD format to take place on 22 - 23 June in Munich's Allianz Auditorium

On 22 - 23 June, Hubert Burda Media will welcome around 500 participants to the Allianz Auditorium at the English Garden for DLDsummer. In a new format, the successful conference series will engage with its core question of how digitalisation is making lasting changes to all areas of our world. This has already been approached from different angles in DLDcities and DLDwomen. DLDsummer focuses on the interface between technology, health and lifestyle. More than 50 international speakers will discuss connected health and the digital relationship between doctors and patients, visionary diagnostic and treatment procedures, wearables, the networked house, and lifestyle apps and devices. The event will be chaired by Burda CEO Paul-Bernhard Kallen and Israeli investor Yossi Vardi.

"DLD is always a forum for experimentation, a crossover between revolutionary ideas and new knowledge," explains DLD director and founder Steffi Czerny. "At DLDsummer, we will meet with fascinating digital companies, economic representatives and leading doctors and scientists to discuss the innovations to be rolled out in the health and lifestyle sector. We will also address questions of personal autonomy in the age of big data and how we can teach our children to handle data responsibly."

The DLD stage will see former skier and multiple Olympic medallist Maria Höfl-Riesch discuss "Big Data and Sport" with Martin Halle, Professor of Sports Medicine at TU Munich.

Florian Holsboer, an expert on depression, will present a new diagnostic method with the potential to revolutionise the treatment of depression.

Neuroscientist Moran Cerf will show how the brain can be trained to make healthier lifestyle choices.

Start-ups Healthtap, Klara and Captureproof - which aim to fundamentally alter the doctor/patient relationship through digital communication and remote diagnosis - promise to revolutionise the healthcare system. Will they really reduce the strain on doctors, patients and insurance companies? And what political conditions are required to transform healthcare? Jens Spahn, CDU spokesperson on health policy in the Bundestag, will be among those voicing their opinions.

In addition, Suzanne Lee (Modern Meadows), Peter Verstrate (Cultured Beef) and Ginger Dosier (BioMason) will provide insights into the world of biofabrication, which can be used to create leather, cement and even meat in laboratories.

Despite the focus on health, there will be the usual DLD mix of topics: Tony Douglas (BMW), Kerstin Günther (Telekom) and Jean-Claude Biver, chairman of Hublot, the luxury watchmaker, will be attending alongside smart home investor Lars Hinrichs, Allianz COO Christof Mascher, Benjamin Joffe (HAX), an expert on the Internet of Things, and film director Jason Wishnow. British musician Beatie Wolfe and illusionist and MIT Fellow Marco Tempest will also take to the DLD stage.

The second evening will see the first DLDacademy take place in cooperation with the Amerikahaus - an open discussion on "Education and Learning in the Digital Age" with Petra Dierkes-Thrun (Stanford University), Esther Wojcicki (author of "Moonshots in Education") and Gabriele Zedlmayer (HP). Entrance is free of charge; to apply for a ticket, please email dld-invitation@burda.com.

DLDsummer sessions will be streamed live by DLD Media. Participation in the conference is by invitation only. Interested parties can apply for the remaining DLDsummer tickets at http://www.dld.co.
